If an employer utilizes a third party to conduct pre-employment background investigations, the employer must:

  • Obtain the applicant’s authorization

  • Provide a copy of "A Summary of Your Rights Under the FCRA" to the applicant.

  • Provide the name, address and telephone number of the company that will conduct the background investigation. This company must provide a copy of the report they create to an applicant upon written request.

  • The employer must provide written or verbal communication to you (Pre-Adverse Action Notice) if the employer intends to deny an employment opportunity, in whole or in part, due to information contained in a background investigation. The employer must provide a copy of the background investigation report to you with the Pre-Adverse Action Notice.

  • The employer must provide an opportunity for you dispute information contained in the background investigation that you believe is inaccurate.

  • The background investigation company must re-investigate information that is disputed by an applicant and submit a revised report to the employer.

  • You have a right to a free copy of the background investigation report whether or not you are denied employment.

TABB INC. only conducts background investigations for public and private employers, volunteer organizations and high schools, colleges and workforce development programs that require a report prior to gaining access to facilities for further instruction or practical experience.
Unlike many websites, we not have a public site that allows anyone on the Internet to conduct a background check on another individual.
The background report that is completed by our office is only available to the client that ordered the report with your authorization. Each client has undergone a rigorous credentialing program as required by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The data that we collect to conduct the background check such as personal identifiable information, information we investigate and results in the report are never resold to another company or reused in another background investigation.
Your date of birth and Social Security number are masked in our system and this information is subject to multiple layers of encryption to prevent identity theft.

How you can expedite your background investigation
Ensure the information you provide on your employment application matches what your employer has in their records. Contact your employers to confirm your dates of employment, title and reason for leaving. Contact any references or supervisors you list on the employment application. Notify those individuals that you are applying for a job and that they may receive a call from a background investigation company. Discuss your work with that reference and ensure that areas of your employment that you wish to highlight are included by your reference when the background investigation company calls.
